A few kelps are being found, roughly 1/2 to 3/4s the way across the channel from Pedro to Avalon. Some are holding Yellows and some are dry.
The quality is good with most 15lbs or better.
33.29 x 118.18 Yellows on kelp

209
Another area where guys are finding a few kelps with Yellowtail on them. There are a few Dorado as well. Not a lot of fish around but it appears that the numbers are building up.
Only about 1 in 15 kelps has gamefish on them and those that do average about a dozen Yellows and maybe a couple of Dorado.
33.10 x 117.50 GOOD kelp holding 20lb Yellowtail and Dorado. 70 degree water
33.07 x 117.48 Dorado kelp
33.12 x 117.49 Good Kelp

Report from Kris on the Grim Reefer:
Rob and I headed out of Dana Point at about 6am with a tank of 6-7 inch sardines. We went straight to the 267 and about 5 miles past it.
Found a few kelps with with birds and bait, but little else.
We set course for the 14 and zig zagged around till we found a kelp on the cooler side of a temp break at: n 33º14.620 w117º56.597
Pretty decent sized with about 9 terns on it. Hooked up immediately and landed a 24lb yellow. Rob threw a ‘dine out, and got nailed. It broke off his 25# flouro pretty quick.
We took another pass at it and almost right away got hooked up and landed a nice yellow that had a 25# top shot hanging off his lip.
We saw more fish on it but they wouldnt bite. After that we putted around and found a few more empty kelps and headed for the harbor.

MEXICO

South 9 / Coronado Canyon / 302
Yellowtail along with a few Dorado and Bluefin are being found in this area this morning.
This area is only 14 to 16 miles from Point Loma!!
32.28 x 117.26 Kelp
32.25 x 117.27 Kelp with a couple of Bluefin

425
Report from Daniel on the Patito:
Headed south to the 425.
Found several pens being towed about 5 miles north of the spot so started trolling there. Did a couple 20-30 minute drifts near the pens for nothing.
Kept trolling to the 425 looking for kelps. Once there we swung around a little east then started heading back up to the 302.
At the 302 we turned east towards home and trolled until the south 9. Only found 4 kelps and they were all micro and none were holding.
All were in the area of the 302 and there were a couple other boats stopped on kelps nearby.
Water was 65 at the 425 and 66 at the 302.
Saw lots of life but no love from the fish gods. Only fun was a short fight with a mako we baited before being cut off.
Weather was like a lake all day.

Report from Emery on the Hello Gorgeous:
Left shelter island at 5am toward 302. Water 66-67 degrees. Water was flat as could be.
Found our first kelp a couple miles south of 302 where my eight year old hooked up immediately but lost a mystery fish and nothing else on that kelp.
After ten min in a southerly direction found a second kelp that went insane on 8-12 lb yellows. Fished that for ten fish and lost as much if not more before it shut down.
Third kelp within a couple miles south of second kelp got two more including my wife’s 25-30 lber( guess) and ran out of bait, all before 10:30 am.
Both my eight and eleven year old sons caught their first today.
Hope this helps somebody.

371 to Upper Hidden bank
Starting to see more attention now and kelps hold Yellowtail and a small number of Dorado are being found.
Its not wide open but the numbers of fish are building up.

475 Knuckle
Another fairly close area with kelps holding Yellowtail. Most are over 10lb with many in the 15 to 20lb class.

Tuna Pens
2 sets of Pens to look at.
31.54 x 117.12
31.51 x 117.12
Both sets of pens are holding Bluefin and they are biting.
Yesterday the best bite came in the afternoon around 4pm. Today appears to be a repeat of this with the morning bite being only so-so.
There is a good area of kelps just a few miles to the SE in a small pocket of warm water centered at 31.48 x 117.02.
Some Bluefin along with Yellowtail and Dorado are on these kelps.
This band of 69 degree water extends down well past the 475.

1140 Finger
Still good fishing just to the east and above the lower 500.
Bluefin are here along with kelps holding Yellowtail.
31.16 x 117.00 Bluefin jig stop
31.19 x 116.59 Big kelp with Yellowtail and a few Bluefin

90 to 100 miles
Still the place to be this morning although the bite is much slower today than yesterday
There is a temp break down here going from 65.4 to 66 degrees and the Boats and Tuna are stacked up on it.
31.03 x 117.10 to 31.02 x 117.12 is the area. Much of the long range fleet are on the break along with most of the 1.5 day fleet.
Jason and Ali on the Tuna Jihad are down in the area and have 4 Bluefin from 25 to 50lbs at 10am

All reports, good, bad, or otherwise are very helpful.·

OFFSHORE
Catalina Channel

For some reason the Santa Monica bay action is really slow. Has been all season except for the Hermosa seabass bite which has completely dried up. There is still squid there that can be jigged up during day light hours.

Something brand new to report………. 3 to 4 pound Bonito have popped up at the K-20 spot. Some Yellowtail seen mixed in with them.
Still plenty of Yellowtail scattered all along the front. Live Squid is a must have bait if your going to catch any though.

Improved action of Yellowtail. This is coming with much improved water conditions.
Look at the middle ground, the Gap, and along the lee of South Island.
If the Islands fail to produce look out west of the Islands in the Coronado Canyon for Kelps. Many of these are holding now.

The volume of Yellowtail appears to be on the rise now. Most kelps are still empty but the ones holding have 1 or 2 dozen Yellows and 2 to 10 Dorado on them
33.03 x 117.55  Dozen Yellows and some Dorado
33.07 x 117.54  Kelp

181 / 182 Ridge
No reports of anything coming from here but this could likely change at anytime with the volume of fish moving up the line. Conditions are almost perfect with the kelps holding bait.
Update: Got a report of a kelp holding 20lb class Yellowtail at 32.53 x 117.53 at the noon hour today. This almost dead on top of the 181

MEXICO
425 / 371 / Upper Hidden Bank / 475 Knuckel
This triangle area is producing much better numbers of Dorado and Yellowtail on kelps now. Bluefin are also showing up as well.
The Bluefin are being found under Tern birds and random jig stops. The zuker Zucchini is a hot jig!
Most of the Tuna are showing in the western portion of this block, while the kelp paddy fishing is best in the eastern part.

Hidden Bank
Report from Seth on the sublimely Hooked:
Headed to the Tuna Pens. Stopped on one at 630 east of the hidden. Temp 66.5. Couldn’t find any takers. Headed west. Found other boaters on paddies went searching for our own. Denyse set out the trollers, with her spread. I went to the the bow to look for paddies while she drove us to a break at 67.3. Whiskey line goes off and we scramble to throw bait and clear lines. I hear the wafer erupt as Denyse grabs the rod. MARLIN and we are tight. For the next 45 minutes I watch my girl fight this beast, and she finally gets out of her winter clothes that she wears on our CC during the battle. This is new ground for us all on the boat, Paul and I did our best to assist and be the best crewmen that we could. Landed her, retrieved lure, took photo’s, and after making sure she was well revived we released her. Denyse even took a dip in the ocean to celeb rate. Awesome day for an already Epic season for us.

Tuna Pens
2 sets of Pens to look at.
31.54 x 117.12
31.51 x 117.12
Both sets of pens are holding Bluefin and they are biting.
The northern set at 31.54 has a mix of 15lb fish, some 35 to 45lb fish and a few larger models
There is also some 25lb class Yellowtail hugging close to the southern pen.
The 31.51 set of pens has better grade Tuna with most at 40lbs and larger. Some Dorado and Yellowtail are also being caught.

Both sets of Pens have a lot of boat traffic around them.
Be advise that there are a bunch of kelps in the surrounding area too with Bluefin and Yellowtail on them.
one of them was at 31.52 x 117.14

238 / 475 / Banda Bank
If the Pens are not biting this area is a great back up.
Lots of spots of Bluefin around. some are on kelps with Yellowtail and Dorado and some out in open water found by Jig stops, sonar marks and bird schools.

1140 / Lower 500 / 75 to 100 miles
Wide open fishing for 40 to 70lb Bluefin this morning. Several of the boats I talked to had over 60 Tuna on the deck with 8 to 12 hanging as of 9am.
This morning much of the focal point has been down 97 miles in an area centered at roughly 31.01 x 117.04.
These are ALL big Tuna from 40 to 75lb each.

All reports, good, bad, or otherwise are very helpful.·
If you go fishing please give us a call or shoot us an email.
