A GALE WARNING is up until Wednesday night for winds 20-30 kt with gusts to 35. 8 to 13 foot seas. Santa Monica Bay GALE WARNING in effect until late Wednesday afternoon. One of our contacts did slip out for a few hours this morning in less than ideal conditions. The seas were very lumpy-bumpy but the wind was all that bad, at least early in the AM. It did come up in the late morning though. Nothing exciting to catch though. Got a couple of sand bass and sculpin off the MDR Artifical Reef on the leadhead and squid combo and then a quick trip to the South Bank for a couple of reds and a few whitefish. He was back to the dock by 9:30-10AM. LA Harbor / Long Beach Shelf / Newport Beach GALE WARNING in effect until late Wednesday afternoon. In spite of that there were a few boats out fishing rockfish on the Southeast Bank and the 150 for sculpin. Conditions made it tough to get on and stay on the fish so the catch rate wasn’t all that good. Typical stuff. A mix of bocaccio, reds, chuckleheads, mixed smaller red rockfish, whitefish and sculpin was the catch. Water is COLD (53 to 54 degrees) and dirty Catalina Island GALE WARNING in effect until late Wednesday afternoon. No report today due to wind and rough seas. —– Weather ALERT! —– Very windy in all the northern waters and light rain in the southern waters this morning. There is a Small Craft Advisory up for today through all of Wednesday for winds inshore winds in the 15 to 25 kt range with gusts to 30 kt and out at the Channel Islands and offshore on the tuna grounds for NW wind in the 20-30 knot range with gusts to 35 kt. Seas are expected to be in the 8 to 13 foot range at 10-12 seconds. There there is a chance for showers and/or thunderstorms from now through Thursday AM with Wednesday/ Thursday am having the highest chance. Bottom line…. It doesn’t look to be fish-able until at least Thursday afternoon. Friday and Saturday look pretty good right now. This is not the end of it either as there is more rain/wind in the forecast for late next weekend too. As always, please keep a close eye on the latest forecast and conditions for your local area before you head out! Synopsis for Inshore Waters of the Southern California Coast West northwest winds will be strong with gusts to around 25 knots today. A brief lull between storm systems late Monday into early Tuesday will allow for winds to weaken slightly. However, the break will be short-lived as the second system arrives Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday, generating gusty northwest winds that may approach gale force at times, particularly over the Outer Waters. Combined seas will also be high, 10 FT or higher, during this period. Winds and seas will then diminish Thursday into Friday as high pressure builds over the region.

Inshore GPS Spots are here. **** Very Limited Report Today ***** Due very rough seas with a Small Craft Advisory up the vast majority of boats stayed tied up to the dock today with only a very few exceptions. This goes for everywhere in SoCal. The local boats, overnight Island runs and the 1.5 day tuna fleet. Of course with it being that rough and snotty pretty much all of the smaller private boaters were not on the water either. Channel Islands BLOWN OUT!! Very windy and rough! Small Craft Advisory’s are up until Wednesday night for winds 20-30 kt with gusts to 35. 8 to 13 foot seas. Santa Monica Bay Very rough and windy. In spite of that we did have one contact get out and he said it was not nice at all. Drift was to face and there was a wind against current deal happening so sitting on the anchor wasn’t much better. They got a few rockfish and a few whitefish on frozen squid and that is about it. LA Harbor / Long Beach Shelf / Newport Beach Couple boats got out in this area today and found conditions to be not very good. In fact at least of those rain checked early because of wind and rough seas. Nothing exciting caught. Just the normal mix of rockfish, whitefish, sand bass and sculpin. Wind was to strong to drift so they had to anchor and that wasn’t much better as they both swung around quite a bit on the anchor. We are told the water greened up and dropped several degrees over night and is now back in the high 50’s again. Catalina Island No report today due to wind and rough seas. Probably be Thursday before anybody gets back out here. San Clemente Island No report today due to wind and rough seas. Probably be Thursday before anybody gets back out here. Be sure to check the Navy closure schedule  before heading out to San Clemente Island. Always monitor VHF Ch. 16 and obey any requests to clear out of closed security zones. Click here  for info on how to read the closure schedule. Dana Point / Oceanside Report from Jack on the Reel Addiction; Caught her off Oside on the down rigger set at 80’ in 120’ of water of the just north of LCAC ramp on Campen , pink skirt and 14’ live Mack . Lots of bait just above the of Harbor in 60’ of water, anchovies, macks and Japanese sardined . Water temp 63.8. Only bite for the day just after the low tide . Looks like there are still some stragglers around chasing bait. NFIO Jack Del Mar to Imperial Beach One boat got out that we know of. They fished the Whistler in less than ideal conditions and caught a bunch of those little rockfish and a few sand bass and sculpin. Nothing to write home about. **** Attention **** There is now an ice vending machine at the Shelter Island launch ramp for your convenience. It’s located right near the bathroom building at the top of the ramp. The machine takes credit cards and 20 lb. bags are $6.95 each.
