New Fishdope Maps FAQ

Welcome to the Beta release of the new FishDope 4.0 Map Interface!

We are very excited to announce the launch of the Beta test version of the new Fishdope Map Interface! The new maps offer faster loading speeds, a larger map viewing area, a modern, user-friendly menu, updated route planning and zoom tools, and new Hot Bite icons.

Be sure to check out our user guide for the new maps to help orient you to the new menu and features.

In the coming weeks we will be adding new layers and features to the maps, such as wind forecasts and solunar tables, and we will also be releasing new apps for both Android and iOS mobile devices as we push toward the finalized version.

As we work out the final kinks in our Beta version, we appreciate your feedback and patience. We’ve tested the map software on most popular browsers and devices, but if you find anything that doesn’t work quite right please submit a support ticket to let us know.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What does Beta mean?
Beta means that we’re in the final stages of working out the bugs and hiccups with the map software. We’ve run extensive tests on our own, but we can’t catch everything and know there are still a few remaining kinks to work out. That’s where you can help, too – play around with the interface as you normally would to check out the reports, plan a trip, etc. If something doesn’t work right, please post it up on our forums. Please include as much information about the problem as you can (device type/operating system, browser, what actions you performed to get to the bug, and a screenshot or two if possible), so that we can pinpoint and fix it quickly.
How do I log in to see the maps?
Log in with your regular FishDope username and password. During this Beta phase you may need to log in to the maps more regularly than the main FishDope website. If you've forgotten your username or password, please contact us.
Do the maps work on mobile devices?
Yes! We’ve designed the map software to work on most popular mobile devices (phones and tablets running iOS or Android) when viewed through a web browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
Why is my iPhone app still broken?
While this new map interface replaces the web-based maps, it doesn’t replace the mobile apps just yet. We need to finish working out the last bugs before we’ll be ready to release the new apps. In the meantime, the new maps will work on your iPhone or iPad by using Safari to visit www.fishdope.com.
Does the Android app still work?
Yes! The existing Android app still works, and it will continue to work until we release the new version.
When are the new apps coming out?
Our developers have been working on apps for iOS and Android for the last several months. As soon as we have worked out the final bugs in this new map interface, we will be ready to submit the apps to iTunes and Google Play. We estimate this will take 3-5 weeks after this initial Beta version of the map interface.
How do I report a bug?
If something doesn’t work right with the new maps, please let us know by posting in our forums. Please include as much information about the problem as you can (device type/operating system, browser, what actions you performed to get to the bug, and a screenshot or two if possible), so that we can pinpoint and fix it quickly.
Can I still use the old maps?
You will still be able to use the existing “legacy” map interface and Android apps while you explore the new look and functionality of the updated version, but we will be discontinuing the old maps in a few weeks once we finalize this new web version and release new apps.
What happened to Range and Bearing?
Our Range and Bearing Tool is now part of the Route Planning tool for this new version. Look for the Route icon on the left side of the map. Click the icon once to turn on Route Planning and then click on the map to select your first point. You can then select another point on the map to get the GPS coordinates and distance between the two points.
Where is the tide chart and sun/moon info?
We are still developing a module to add sun, moon, tide, and solunar table data. In the meantime, this information is still available on our old “legacy” maps.
Why does it look different on my phone/tablet?
To make the maps fully mobile-compatible, we use responsive layouts that automatically adjust to your device screen resolution to provide you with the best possible user experience for your particular phone or tablet.
