Hermosa Beach
Big crowd over night with varied reports. some got them, many did not
Best advise, You don’t need to be in the crowd to score! Get your Squid and GO DARK! Don’t make any loud noise. Be Stealthy!!
33.52.09 x 118.25.23  Hermosa Hard Bottom
33.51.22 x 118.24.80  Hermosa Beach Artificial Reef

5 to 6lb class bonito moved inside of King harbor. These are much larger than the normal 1 to 2lb fish that have been biting.
The Bubble hole is the hot spot and guys in skiffs, guys on the short breakwall and even some guys on the pier are catching them.

Catalina Island
No change in the story…….
The Backside of the Island is where most guys are looking at right now. Yellowtail and a Seabass or 2 are being found in West Cove and at Iron Bound.
Still some seabass between China and Church Rock. If your lucky and get on the right bunch you can make a big score on the 30lb class Seabass. It is very hit and miss though. Some guys are killing them while others never see a fish.
The frontside has been kind of quiet the past few days due mainly to a raging downhill current. Conditions right now are better on the backside.
Squid can be made at Mills Landing and at China Point.

Report from Frank on the High Spitit:
Pulled into china point at 11pm last night and metered squid all over but the Sea lions had other plans with it till 6am when it was wide open on the squid jigs we made a scoop.
Then started up the island with south winds at 5 miles and hour and up hill current did a few drifts for some legal calicos and headed for seal cove were we anchored and put some healthy SCI calicos on.
Started up the island at 9 am again stoped at a few spots and headed for the Dunes were 3 boats were ancored.
Metered fish everywhere dropped the hook in 110 feet and put on more calicos till we seen a free swimmer chase a calico up to the boat then the bite was on.
I hooked the first Seabass on 30 with a dead squid on a white leadhead and we boated 7 more on live and fresh dead.
Bite was on from 10:30 am till 12 and then headed up to the runway for 2 drifts in 50 foot of water and picked up 1 more seabass and a fat 30 lb halibut.
Near limits on the calicos for 7 and 9 white seabass form 18 to 35 lbs and the halibut.
Great weather all the way home.

Always make sure the Island is open before making the run.

LA Harbor
Very good fishing for both Barracuda and Sand bass. Most of the Barracuda action is spread out on the Horseshoe while the Sand Bass are on the mud at the Anchorage, Izors, and the Huntington flats in about 75 feet of water.
Some schools of Barracuda are on the flats as well so you can’t rule them out if fishing for the Sand Bass.
Last night the twilight action was excellent with lots of legal sized bass up to nearly 9lb caught.
33.39.87 x 118.13.50  Horseshoe South
33.40.00 x 118.13.34  Horseshoe North
33.38.70 x 118.12.27  East Horseshoe
33.38.40 x 118.14.00  Horseshoe
33.39.40 x 118.13.42  Buoy #1
33.38.10 x 118.14.05  Bull Kelp
33.38.33 x 118.14.08  Olympic Rock
33.41.73 x 118.08.72  Gambler Wreck
33.41.06 x 118.07.73  Sand Bass Junction
33.39.03 x 118.06.08  Izors Reef

Report from Blake on the Transporter:
Got squid from the Marie Claire (THANKS!) mid day Friday @ LA Harbor to run to Catalina for a couple days. That didn’t happen since my motor seized 10 minutes later.
Figured I might as well use the squid, and I have a spare kicker motor, so off to the area of the Gambler wreck.
Lots of really nice grade sandbass 18″ to 22″ with no shorts and limits for 1 from about 2 – 4:30.
To the 150 from there for a couple reds but they never really got going.
Nice smooth night so I camped on Izors soaking squid.. no WSB, I knew it was a long shot.
Looked for some halibut this morning until 11, no flatties, but C&R’d several more 18″ sandbass and only 1 short.
They’re still spread out, but nice grade of fish there in the flats for you bass guys!
LA Harbor_Sand_Bass_7-7

Dana Point
San Onofre to Barn Kelp is the area to look at south of Dana and to the north Salt Creek to 3 Arch Bay are the spots. Great Calico Bass fishing in the kelp and just outside of it the Sand Bass are turning on stupid over the mud.
33.20.88 x 117.34.05  San Onofre
33.21.79 x 117.33.78  Domes
33.19.29 x 117.30.52  Box Canyon
33.19.08 x 117.31.76  Box Canyon #2
33.18.58 x 117.29.13  Barn Kelp

South of Oceanside
Big Schools of Barracuda moved in all along the beach from the Power Plant south. All Oceanside had for bait yesterday was giant 7 to 10″ sardines and the Cuda are on schools of Small Anchovy, so count does not reflect the true volume of fish.
This morning the bait barge got a fresh load of Anchovy so watch for the cuda and Calico Bass counts to jump way up.

Torrey Pines / La Jolla / Point Loma
Slow fishing for Yellowtail and Seabass overnight.
Great calico Bass fishing however. Some new schools of Barracuda as well.
Both of these are showing at any kelp bed right now.
Still plenty of Squid to make bait with at Crystal Pier
32.47.58 x 117.16.58· Pacific Beach Artificial Reef – Crystal Pier

Report from Michael on the Temecula Bank Robber:
SWORDFISH!!
Fished N La Jolla overnight for nada headed up to Torrey Pines at 7am.
Got there and found a tailing Swordie. Baited him successfully with a large sardine.
Was at upper helm and positioned my buddy Scott perfectly – our first successful attempt (third billfish we have cast to in past three years) and proceeded to run around chasing him down for about 40min..
…….Too light flouro and we broke him off – great fun while it lasted!
Came back around the nine mile lots of nice paddies water 71-72 little wind chop. Headed home around 1pm.
Mike on the Temecula BankRobber.

Imperial Beach / Bull Ring
Excellent Sand Bass fishing continues right at the Mexican border.
This bite is so good on quality Sandies that the 3/4 Coronado Islands boats are on the spot fishing it. There are a few stray Yellowtail and Barracuda being caught as well.
NO Seabass in over a week.
32.34.00 x 117.12.00  IB Flats
32.31.50 x 117.08.60  Bull Ring

Coronado Islands
Slow………….. Nothing to talk about here.

OFFSHORE
Outside of the Rigs
The Gail Force ran across a kelp holding Yellowtail in the mid channel 1/2 way between the west end and the Angel Gate.

MEXICO
302/371/425
Water temps are 67 to 69. Very clean but no game fish. Kelps only holding small anchovy.

110 to 130 miles
Bluefin and Dorado numbers are on the rise and the fishing has made a big jump for the better.

Best zone is still at 30.30 to 30.50 x 116.36 to 117.00.

Bluefin, Yellowfin, Yellowtail and dorado are all being found on kelps. Long drifts for hours to get the bluefin
The hot spot is still centered around 30.39 x 116.58.
The Tuna are being found by sonar marks, Jumpers and by long drifts off of Kelps.
Still plenty of 8 to 10lb Yellowtail on kelps

Report from Matthew fishing on the Condor:
Hey guys, Just back from a 1.5 day on the Condor. We were down in that 130 mi range. Things have definitely changed down there. We probably hit over 40 kelps and most were dry. The ones that did mark well on the sonar, which were few and far between, did not bite very well. We ended up scratching up 32 fish for 37 people. I am guessing about 14 bft, 1 small dodo and the rest yellows. The yellows were mostly 8-10 lbs with one in the high 20’s. We did run into some bluefin first thing in the morning as we drifted off a kelp, and just before we motored away they came to the boat. We only got a few that were in the 12-15 lb class. Although the day was slow I was happy with my 15 lb bluefin and 2 10 lb yellows, but we ended up with a savior sundowner that made the day. It was almost pitch black when we got a jig strike. First bait in the water had an instant hookup, and second bait in the water, which was me, also got hooked up. I ended up with a nice 40+ lb bluefin for jackpot. The boat landed about 10 of those in the 30-40 lb range. Even nicer is the jackpot on the Condor was raised to $20 per person, so with 32 willing participants, I was able to pay for the trip and still give half to the crew. I was the high man of the day and did quite well on a relative basis, but it is definitely not limit style fishing on yellowtail down there right now. The volume of fish must have moved on…hopefully coming up the line. Also of note, we had three jig strikes on separate occasions on bluefin…the bright color feathers, such as orange, were the ones getting bit. Matt

Report from the Outer Limits:
This weekends 1.5 day trip was fantastic. The weather was as flat as it could get and the fishing was just as good. The trip total was 15 bluefin 12 dorado and 42 yellowtail.
Dorado 7-7

Channel Islands
Fish Camp at Anancapa Island. A few yellowtail
34.00.35 x 119.22.90  Fish Camp

Smugglers Cove at Santa Cruz Island. Yellowtail and Seabass. Some barracuda too.

Hermosa Beach
White Seabass are still being caught on a nightly basis even with the big crowds. 95% of the bite is in the dark before daylight with only a few fish after that until about 9am.
You don’t need to be in the crowd to score! Get your Squid and GO DARK! Don’t make any loud noise. Be Stealthy!!

In other news some 5 to 6lb class bonito moved inside of King harbor. These are much larger than the normal 1 to 2lb fish that have been biting.
The Bubble hole is the hot spot and guys in skiffs, guys on the short breakwall and even some guys on the pier are catching them

Catalina Island
Mixed up conditions is making the fishing tough for a lot of guys.
Very strong current or none at all is the major culprit.
Yellowtail are still around the Island and are willing to biting good if you can find the right conditions. Ideally what you want is just enough current to pull the kelp down slightly but not so much that it acts like a river.
The western half of the Island is holding to largest percentage of Yellowtail. The fish are on both the front, west end and the Backside.
LIVE Squid is a MUST HAVE bait. If you can also have a tank of Anchovy for chum you chance at a Yellow go way up.

Seabass continue to make a weak but daily showing on the East end backside spots.
Look for the conditions between Church Rock and China Point. The Seabass are roaming up and down this entire stretch of the Island.

Darrell is not at the Island today but plans to be there tonight and have Squid for sale by Sunday morning.
Contact Darrell on the “Mary Claire” at 949-677-0607 or CH 11. If you mention “Fishdope” you’ll get $10 dollars off on each scoop of Squid!
Squid can be made at Mills Landing and at China Point.

Report from Rick on the Mambo:
Fished San Clemente island yesterday for nada.  No current on the front side cold in pyramid cove 62 degrees. Decided to run back to Catalina spent the night in cat harbor… Hit west end bumps for a few nice reds then in to west cove where some yellows reportedly showed up yesterday. Ended with 6 nice yellowtail between 12 and 2pm. Looked like boats around hooking up very well. Water temp 67…. Flylined Live squid that we got early friday from Darryl on the Marie Claire. Thanks Darryl!

Yellows and Seabass are both at the Island and biting right now. It’s hit and miss fishing though. One day see’s a big score on the Seabass and the next ZIPPO!

Bluefin seen off of Pyramid Head! 30 to 50lb class Tuna were spotted jumping within a mile of the point.

The Cove, China Point, Lost Point and the Dunes continue to be the spots to look at.

LA Harbor to Newport Beach
BARRACUDA….. The 1st really good wide open bite on the cuda this season is happening right now.
Yesterday saw good numbers and last night the Native Sun on a twilight score full 10 fish limits.
Once again this morning they are biting. The Black/White Tady A1 with a fixed single hook is a deadly iron on these fish.
Live Squid continues to be the bait of choice. The Mary Claire is no longer at Huntington Beach and will be a Catalina beginning Saturday night.
Barracuda are on the flats as well. It’s hit and miss on them but if you find them the bite can be very good.
You can also find roaming schools of Barracuda on the Horseshoe.

Was on the 31 foot Bertrum “Old School” Got a scoop of Squid in Newport and ran all the way down to San Onofre. Got limits of big fat Sand Bass. Had the Yellows around but didn’t boat any of them.
Stopped at Dana on the way up north and got a scoop of Anchovy and took them to 3 Arch Bay and caught and released countless numbers of Calico Bass

Crystal Pier
Report from Karen on the Bubba Jean:
Fished near Crystal Pier, just like all the other boats!! At 10:30 pm Friday, squid started to bite. No WSB, but did pick up a 28 lb. YT at grey light. Flat, clean water.
32.47.58 x 117.16.58· Pacific Beach Artificial Reef – Crystal Pier

Excellent Sand Bass fishing! Lot’s of limits being caught Squid and plastics are both working great.

Coronado Islands
Report from Jerry on the Albienut:
Fished the Coronado Islands, RockPile,101,425.
We didn’t want to fish for sand bass so we past by the flats. Radio reports were that it was really slow in the morning.
Coronados – Excellent flat calm conditions all around the Island. Maybe too good? Fish the NE side of South Island, Middle Grounds. No drift or current what so ever from 0500 to 0900. No YT caught, seen, or heard of. Water temps were between 67 and 69.
Rock Pile – Better drift. Water temps 67 to 68. No YT. Did get into a great bottom fish bite on the incoming tide between 1000 and 1200. All the usual species (Lings,Scuplin,Small Reds,Sheephead ect.)
101 – Couple Small kelps with a little anchovie on them for nothing. 67 to 69. Nice looking water.
425 – Ditto 101.
We wish we would of tried the the area between Torrey Pines and Crystal pier.
Heard of some nice WSB and YT coming from various places. Our consensus on the AlbieNut is we should of changed our plan last minute and went to that area.
Oh well thats fishing!
Jerry Fishing on the AlbieNut.

OFFSHORE
Hurricane Erick is about to move into our swell window on Wednesday and Thursday, which should begin pushing more Yellowfin and Dorado up our way.
Fingers crossed……
Hurricane Erick

San Clemente Basin
Some Bluefin are beginning to show in this area now.
Some Jumpers were spotted off Pyramid Head yesterday and today a number of kelps looked at in the area of 32.30 x 118.05 had good sonar marks of Bluefin on them. These Tuna failed to bite however.

Mexico
101 / 425
Water temps are 67 to 69. Very clean but no game fish. Kelps only holding small anchovy.

110 to 130 miles
No change except that the bluefin are chewing pretty good this morning
Bluefin numbers are on the rise and the fishing has made a big jump for the better.

Best zone is still at 30.30 to 30.50 x 116.36 to 117.00.

Bluefin, Yellowfin, Yellowtail and a dorado or two are all being found on kelps. Long drifts for hours to get the bluefin
The hot spot is still centered around 30.39 x 116.58.
The Tuna are being found by sonar marks, Jumpers and by long drifts off of Kelps.
Still plenty of 8 to 10lb Yellowtail on kelps

All reports, good, bad, or otherwise are very helpful.·
If you go fishing please give us a call or shoot us an email.

Channel Islands
New hot spot to check out……. Smugglers Cove at Santa Cruz Island.
Yellowtail and White Seabass mix is showing here.
34.01.340 x 119.32.240  Smuggler’s Cove

Marina Del Rey
Hermosa Beach Seabass is still the headline.
The crowd is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile below the pier but there are fish being caught up as far as the pier. You don’t need to be in the crowd to score! Get you Squid and GO DARK! Don’t make any loud noise. Be Stealthy!!
33.52.09 x 118.25.23  Hermosa Hard Bottom
33.51.22 x 118.24.80  Hermosa Beach Artificial Reef
In other news some 5 to 6lb class bonito moved inside of King harbor. These are much larger than the normal 1 to 2lb fish that have been biting.
The Bubble hole is the hot spot and guys in skiffs, guys on the short breakwall and even some guys on the pier are catching them.

Catalina Island
The Backside of the Island is where most guys are looking at right now. Yellowtail and a Seabass or 2 are being found in West Cove and at Iron Bound.
Still some seabass between China and Church Rock. If your lucky and get on the right bunch you can make a big score on the 30lb class Seabass. It is very hit and miss though. Some guys are killing them while others never see a fish.
The frontside has been kind of quiet the past few days due mainly to a raging downhill current. Conditions right now are better on the backside.
Squid can be made at Mills Landing and at China Point.
33.28.730 x 118.36.200  West End
33.28.082 x 118.36.220  West End High Spot

San Clemente Island
Bluefin seen off of Pyramid Head! 30 to 50lb class Tuna were spotted jumping within a mile of the point.
Yellowtail and White Seabass is the primary target and on some days the scores are pretty good.
The Cove, China Point, Lost Point and the Dunes continue to be the spots to look at.
Plenty of Squid in the cove and at the Dunes.

Barracuda are on the flats as well. It’s hit and miss on them but if you find them the bite can be very good.

Dana Point to Oceanside
Nothing new to talk about in this area. Water is off colored green but the calico bass are will to come out and play if you chum them with live anchovy.
As always 90% of these Bass are shorts, just under the 14 inch size limit.
Sand bass have not moved out onto the mud flats yet.

They fished on the 60foot Viking, “Right Kind” at San Onofre today and had great fishing for Calico Bass, Barracuda and looked at a bunch of Yellowtail.
Dave said it was the best he has seen in 20 years.

Still not much to talk about. Water looks great. Temps are good in the mid to upper 60’s, just the action on Yellowtail is “off”
A few guys score a yellowtail or 2 but many don’t.
In fact the bite on Yellows is such that the 3/4 day boats are focused on excellent San Bass fishing on the Flats instead of fishing the Islands.

32.17.50 x 117.10.50  Rockpile

OFFSHORE
181 / 182 Ridge
A few guys are looking for kelps and finding mainly dry kelps.
Some have bait but none had Yellowtail on them.

Mexico
302 / 425 / 101
Quiet……. No recent reports

110 to 130 miles
Bluefin numbers are on the rise and the fishing has made a big jump for the better.
Latest big count has the Pacific Voyager scoring 51 Yellowtail, 68 Bluefin, and 1 lonely Dorado for just 19 guys. That’s good Bluefin fishing!
Best zone is still at 30.30 to 30.50 x 116.36 to 117.00. Bluefin, Yellowfin and a dorado or two. Long drifts for hours to get the bluefin
The hot spot is still centered around 30.39 x 116.58.
The Tuna are being found by sonar marks, Jumpers and by long drifts off of Kelps.
Still plenty of 8 to 10lb Yellowtail on kelps, if your interested in those.

All reports, good, bad, or otherwise are very helpful.·
If you go fishing please give us a call or shoot us an email.
